Why Karachi’s Load Shedding Works Differently From the Rest of Pakistan
In April 2026, the federal government introduced a nationwide load shedding plan to manage fuel costs. K-Electric and HESCO were both exempted from it. The reason is regional. Karachi relies less on furnace oil for power generation than other parts of the country. The same cuts would not save the same fuel costs here.

It happens even in exempt, high-recovery areas when equipment genuinely needs work.
